He created this unique technique in 2002, and it took him eight years before he publicized it. Explore Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori (previously) returns to Joshua Liner Gallery this week for his second solo show, Goldfish Salvation. Fukahori has become widely known for his depiction of aquatic life painted with acrylic within layers of resin, most frequently the forms of goldfish as they swim through small wooden boxes or inside bamboo hats. Born in 1973 in Aichi, Japan, Riusuke Fukahori’s muse for his photo-real work with layered paint and poured resin is the humble goldfish. He graduated from Aichi Art University in 1995, but it wasn’t until creatively hitting rock bottom in 2000 that he rediscovered that a goldfish he’d abandoned 7 years before was still alive.
